Digital Workspace Directory

General

The Digital Workspace Directory is where the webpages are created and the data files are saved. You don't have to use it, but it lets you make a master index file (a full list of links to all of your webpages). It also lets you see the pages you have created and a representative image (called the "star" image).

When you start the program, you get a window which shows you the default "digital workspace directory." It will load all the saved data files in the directory and list them.

Controls

Star Image

When you create a webpage, you can set one image to be the "star." This image should be a representative image of the whole webpage. In the Master Index window, when you click on the webpage name, you will see the star image to remind you which page you have selected.

New Webpage Button

click the button and a blank document will be created with a placeholder image. From there, just add images, adjust your settings, and save/generate your webpage. (click for more info)

Generate Master Button

This will generate a master index files. Image2Web will create a file named "index.html" and a folder "images" in the digital workspace directory.

This will create a basic webpage which will link all of your webpages to it. It will create index.html and images/ directory. When you copy your webpages and master index to somewhere else (such as a webserver), you need to ensure that the directory structure is the same.

Change Button

It is likely that you will want to put all of your saved files and generated webpages in a different directory. Clicking change will let you set a new directory and reload the saved files in it.

You can have several digital workspace directories (e.g. one for work, one for children's pictures, one for art, etc.) You can switch between them as required.

If you are running 10.3 or better, you will be able to click "New Folder". OS X version 10.0, 10.1, and 10.2 do not have this feature.

File Structure

General

Each file is saved in the "Digital Workspace Directory" with the suffix ".I2WB" When you generate the webpage, it will create a directory with the same name as the saved file. Within the directory will be the index.html file, the images directory, the thumbnail directory and the pages directory.

When you generate the master index, you will get in the digital workspace directory itself index.html and an images directory.

Note, the html code expects the files to stay in relative order to each other. If you plan to use the master index, the main index.html and images directory, each webpage folder must be copied to the destination without changing the order. If you use each webpage separately, then just move the entire folder, e.g. "Family Picts."

Old

Image2Web will create the directory "old" when needed. Image2Web will not overwrite any files. Instead, if there is a file or folder with the same name, it will move it to the "old" directory. If you re-generate webpages, the old ones will be moved into the "old" directory rather than being overwritten. I can't assume that you never have anything in the old folders that you need to keep. However, you will want to empty this from time.
